Our History

The Kingsmill Women's Social Club is an organization run and supported solely by its members for the purpose of promoting social and educational activities. It is open to women who are residents of Kingsmill in Williamsburg, Virginia. For over 40 years our members have experienced friendship, fellowship, stimulating programs, diverse special interest groups and enjoyable social events.

On October 18, 1976, a small group of dedicated Kingsmill women met to address the need for a women's club in the new community.  They sought to "provide a place of good surroundings where women could congregate in pleasing comfort to pursue their interests", as well as to provide an opportunity for those women who did not play golf or tennis to make new friends and become socially involved in the newly formed Kingsmill community. As a result of the meeting, the group received approval from Busch management to establish a women's club in Kingsmill. The first function of the Kingsmill Woman's Social Club was an evening social held on December 13, 1976.

The first directory, published for the 1977-1978 Club year indicated a membership of 98 women. Kingsmill's growth was reflected in the Club growth. By 1983 the Executive Board was looking for a facility that could accommodate 275 members. In 1994-95, the membership peaked at over 700 members. Today our membership is almost 500 women.  By-laws were printed in the 1977 Directory. In 1983 the club was incorporated. In 1991, 15 years after the founding of the Club, our name was changed from The Kingsmill Woman's Social Club to The Kingsmill Women's Social Club.

Today we continue to reap the benefits of years of excellent leadership from our Presidents and Executive Board; the dedication, talent and hard work of our volunteer chairs; and the enthusiastic participation of our members. This combination of efforts continues to enhance our enjoyment of the many programs and friendships offered through the Club.
